    by Ellie

JCPenney’s #HereIAm campaign is already working to send the message that body confidence is important, and that no women should be told they have to hide their body under unflattering clothes. Now, plus size blogger and model Simone Mariposa is adding her own thoughts on the matter and promoting a new campaign to help encourage plus size women everywhere to not hide their bodies.

The 23-year-old Los Angeles native has spoken before about how she feels that plus size women have been stripped of their humanity by being told to cover up their bodies. But, after years of putting up with it, Simone has had enough—so she took to Twitter to encourage women to share pictures of them in what may be considered “unusual” fashion choices, tagged with #WeWearWhatWeWant. Her hope is to show plus-size women that they do not have to hide their bodies like society tells them to; they can wear whatever they want, as long as they are happy and they love their body.

Since it began, the new campaign has garnered a lot of attention and inspired thousands of women everywhere to share their bold outfits and to stop hiding. In an interview with The Daily Mail online, Simone explained how society has spent years telling plus size women to hide their bodies because they can make other people uncomfortable if they wear more form-fitting or revealing clothing. She went on to add that plus size women tend to have their feelings entirely ignored when people talk about them so inhumanely.

Things are all things that can have a negative effect on a plus size women’s body confidence, which is what Simone is aiming to change through the new Twitter campaign. While other people may not realize what these cruel comments can do to women, Simone understands it perfectly. She herself has been subjected to hateful messages because of her body, and at one point was extremely self-conscious about her body. But over the last few years, she has learned to love herself fully and never lets hateful social media comments get her down.

The #WeWearWhatWeWant campaign is continuing to grow at an impressive rate and Simone could not be happier. She hopes that plus size women area can see the pictures and the words of encouragement, and learn to never let society tell them they need to hide. She also hopes that it will help society to become even more accepting of plus-size women.

#WeWearWhatWeWant is not just about encouraging plus size women to make bold fashion choices. It is about encouraging them to love themselves and their bodies and to have strong body confidence. Society should never dictate what they can and cannot do in regards to their bodies, and this campaign serves as an important reminder of that fact. Simone wants women to be brave and not just wear what they want, but to share it so that other women can see and learn that they can do the same. Because, at the end of the day, you should wear what makes you comfortable and happy—not what makes other people feel that way.
